HYDRAULIC DIAMOND WIRE CUTTER

DESCRIPTION

Offshore cutting of objects can be extremely hazardous. For pipeline, they may still have contents under pressure or not been properly flushed. For steelwork, it may be under load with potential spring back or jamming of the cutting device. For drilling conductors, there may be multiple internal concentric pipes separated by cement or air gaps. Conventional cutting methods such as hot cutting with broco’s (underwater thermic lance) are high risk and can only be used when all variables are known.  They are used manually which is a slow process. Thermal cutting cannot be used when there is a risk of oil or gas in the object being cut and they are not effective for cutting cement or pipe coatings. For internal pipes, access windows have to be made to be able to cut the internal pipes increasing the amount of time required.

To make underwater cutting safer and faster, Diamond Wire cutters are frequently used. They are fast, effective and safe. SERS group has designed and manufactured the Diamond Wire Cutters for use in subsea repair or structure removal operations. It has been developed to cut pipelines, jackets, caissons, etc. It can accommodate any tubular structure ranging from 406.4mm – 914.4mm (16-36 in); 914.4mm – 1371.6mm (36-54 in) and above 1371.6mm(54 in)  in diameter.

The Diamond Wire Cutter allows the lines to be safely cut with minimal diver intervention once the tool is set up. The tool has also been designed to be used with ROVs, so that it can be powered and operated using the ROVs’ hydraulics, rather than a dedicated above water control and power supply. The Diamond wire cutter was used extensively on the Middle East projects with great success, cutting large diameter concrete coated pipelines in less than 3 hours.
